Reads as hand-split cedar from the curb without wood rot or cedar’s preservation cycle. It still needs ordinary roof inspection and debris management; composite is lower-maintenance, not maintenance-free.
What the install has to get right
Natural slate is heavy and requires a slate-specific structural and installation plan. Brava’s slate-profile composite is much lighter; the existing framing still needs to be evaluated. Our Meridian Hills project paired the profile with custom copper at the valleys and chimney.

The composite barrel profile on our Martinsville roof delivers the curved clay-tile read at substantially less material weight. The roof structure, underlayment, drainage, and fastening still have to be checked for the actual house.
See the Martinsville roofBrava composite tile can read as cedar, slate, or barrel tile from the street. Brava publishes Class 4 impact-rated options and uses mineral pigment through the tile. The part that changes from house to house is the cut at the rake, the valley, and the assembly.

Tiles get cut at every rake and valley. The internal rib structure is hollow. If the cut edge is left exposed, that structure is what you see looking up the roof. We finish cut edges so you see clean tile even from a second-story window.
Brava’s current installation manual and warranty set temperature and installation requirements. The proposal should identify the applicable documents, and the installer should record the conditions and follow the selected product’s protocol.
Brava uses mineral pigment through the tile rather than relying only on a surface coating. Tile variation and the available reveal can produce a deeper read; review physical samples on the house before deciding.
Brava is positioned as a long-horizon material. That does not eliminate roof maintenance: flashings, sealants, penetrations, drainage, and storm damage still need inspection over time.
