OUR STORY

WE LOVE CONSTRUCTION. More important, we love building things. Building teams. Building strong culture where people can grow, thrive, and find fulfillment in what they do. Building an envelope around a home that performs, ventilates properly, lasts a lifetime, and has thoughtful design. Building a brand with a clear vision and sense of purpose.

Locke and Ladder can trace its origins back to 2003 when founder Jon Strand was paying his own way through Herron School of Art in Indianapolis by installing roofs and working general construction. Though at that time – he had no idea art, roofing, and exteriors would some day go hand in hand.

Funny what happens when you throw a bunch of artists, writers, actors, musicians, and athletes into the home improvement industry. We discovered our perspective from outside the industry was what made us perfect for the industry. And something we never thought we would care about has become a passion.

Yup, passionate about tar and asphalt…

…and everything else Locke and Ladder stands for.

The core group at Locke & Ladder spent nearly two decades building a national replacement window brand which was purchased in by a private equity home improvement group.

The challenge of building something new and better was an idea we could not let go of…it was first spoken out of frustration with common industry practices. (Ever had a bad experience with a contractor? – Us too).

We joined forces with some industry veterans that shared our same values. From there we took the good parts of our past companies, and did away with the parts we didn’t like.

“What if we did it even better than last time?” And once it was spoken we could not get it out of our minds. The idea grew and grew for over a year in our head and in our hearts until it was the only obvious answer – create Locke and Ladder.

Door after door began to open (metaphorically and physically). While obstacles certainly pop up in business, it was uncanny how fast the company was able to go from concept to reality to installing homes and commercial buildings.

We are here because we believe it is the path we are supposed to be on. We are so pleased and encouraged by the doors that continue to open for Locke and Ladder. That’s why you will see an open door in the middle of our logo.

2025 marks continued growth in the central Indiana region as well as Q2 expansion into the Chicagoland area.

We are excited for the journey ahead.
