The decision
The existing copper gave this project its rules. A standard roof package could have replaced the failing surface, but it would not have respected the house. Brava synthetic slate in Graphite gave the roof the weight and shadow it needed, while custom-bent copper kept the roof tied to the original architecture.
The important choice was not simply synthetic slate versus asphalt. It was whether the visible metal would be treated like a detail worth designing or a line item to hide. On this home, the copper had to be visible and correct.
The scope drivers
- Custom copper valley and sidewall metal shaped for the roof, not pulled from stock.
- Copper snow-stop placement coordinated with the slate field.
- Brava starter, hip, and ridge details handled as part of the roof system.
- Ventilation and water-routing decisions documented before the roof closed up.
- Photo proof captured the copper work before it disappeared into the finished assembly.
What changed
The finished photos show the Graphite synthetic-slate field meeting custom copper valleys, sidewalls, and snow stops as one roof system. The public record does not include the contract price, timeline, alternatives rejected, or a homeowner quote.
